Continuing the Mission: Veterans Making a Difference in Their Community
Military service may come to an end, but the commitment to serving others often does not.
For many Veterans, the values developed during military service continue to shape the way they live and contribute to their communities. Whether they’re starting businesses, mentoring others, volunteering their time, or leading local organizations, Veterans continue making a difference long after their time in uniform has ended.
October is an opportunity to recognize those continued contributions and to remember that supporting Veterans means more than honoring their service - it means empowering them as they continue to build stronger communities.
Leadership Beyond the Uniform
The transition from military to civilian life often marks the beginning of a new chapter. Many Veterans become entrepreneurs, applying the same commitment and work ethic they demonstrated during their military careers to creating positive change in the lives of others.
During National Veterans Small Business Week [November 2-6], we also recognize the countless Veteran-owned businesses that strengthen local economies, create jobs, and continue serving their communities in meaningful ways. Supporting these businesses is one way we can honor the leadership and dedication Veterans bring to every new role they take on.
Making a Difference Starts With Us
Creating stronger communities is a shared responsibility.
Observed each October, Make a Difference Day [October 24], reminds us that meaningful change often begins with simple acts of service. Volunteering, supporting Veteran-owned businesses, or donating to organizations that serve Veterans are all meaningful ways to give back.
No action is too small when it comes to showing appreciation for those who have served. Together, these efforts help ensure Veterans feel valued not only for their service, but for the continued impact they make every day.
Continuing the Mission Together
At the Dinontas Foundation, we believe that encouragement can change lives. Founded by Veteran Lieutenant Ron Cimo, our mission has always been to encourage Veterans through giving - providing essential resources while creating opportunities for dignity, connection, and hope.
As a Veteran-founded and Veteran-led organization, we understand that service doesn't end when the uniform comes off. That’s why every outreach event, every volunteer, and every act of generosity is rooted in one simple belief: when Veterans are supported, empowered, and encouraged, entire communities grow stronger.
This month, we invite you to continue the mission with us. Whether you support a Veteran-owned business during National Veterans Small Business Week, volunteer your time on Make a Difference Day, or contribute to our mission, your actions help ensure Veterans know their service is remembered and their future is valued.
